Kiva is a non-profit organization, founded in 2005, with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the Internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. 100% of every dollar lent on Kiva goes directly towards funding loans. Kiva also does not charge interest to those partners who administer the loans. Kiva is funded primarily through generous supporters who make optional donations. Funds are also generated through corporate sponsors, grants, and foundations.
Kiva is truly an amazing organization. Since its founding, there have been 1,342,929 lenders, generating $763,578,325 in loans. Kiva has 302 field partners and 450 volunteers in over 88 countries worldwide. Kiva is helping those in need find a way out of poverty by giving people a chance to start a business of their own.
