Five Reasons We Love Wigs

In Hollywood, the fashion industry and politics, wigs have been used for centuries both as a cosmetic component of success and as a symbol of success itself, as well as for respect and reverence.

Today’s wigs are so finely crafted that, without someone sharing, it is nearly impossible to determine whether a person is wearing a wig or their hair is naturally so full of body and life.

Who Wears Wigs and Wefts

For those who didn’t already know, the actors and actresses who wear wigs and wefts both in movies and on the red carpet probably won’t come as a surprise. Angelina Jolie, Nicolas Cage, Beyoncé, John Travolta, Javier Bardem and Rihanna all — famously — wear wigs to give their hair a fuller look or hide hairlines. No surprise there.

But there are also some actors and actresses you might not expect who wear wigs regularly, including “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd, Julianna Margulies of “The Good Wife,” Robert Pattinson of the “Twilight” series; Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen on “Game of Thrones,” the immensely talented Anne Hathaway and the charmingly beautiful Emma Stone.

Actually, They Are for You!

Some people make the mistaken assumption that wigs aren’t appropriate for everyday life, that a person can’t wear one unless they are a celebrity, star or politician. While that dogma may work for some, others of us are a little too conservative to give a stylist free reign to transform us.

Wigs are perfectly appropriate for every occasion — even an ordinary work day — and for every person regardless of who they are or what they do.

There are five things a wig can do that no stylist, coloring, cream or gel can accomplish.

Non-Destructive — One reason wigs are so popular in Hollywood is because a wig does not damage a person’s hair. Changing hairstyles every few weeks can do damage that takes months or years to fully repair. For people who want to temporarily change the style of their hair without ruining it long-term, wigs are ideal.

Natural Look — Though the art of making wigs is an industry that has produced exceptional products for centuries, in the last 50 years, technology has made it possible to not only make wigs look natural, but better than natural. No longer is there a concern that a wig from a respectable manufacturer might appear artificial. Whether a person is or isn’t wearing one might be, the quality of today’s wigs is no secret.

Time Savers — Even a temporary hairstyle that isn’t destructive can take a considerable amount of time to get right. A person can prepare for formal occasions and/or events that call for something special in a matter of minutes, not hours.

Money Savers — Depending on the stylist, the cost of a new hairstyle can demand considerable costs. A wig — something that can last for decades if properly cared for — is typically considerably less expensive than repeated trips to a stylist over the long run.

Hide Deficiencies — Many people, both men and women alike, were not blessed with perfect hair. Hair may be thin or unhealthy, receding, patchy or gone altogether. Some have hair that has grayed prematurely or isn’t maturing uniformly. And, most of the time it isn’t a big deal. But for anyone on those special occasions who wants their hair to match the way they feel about themselves, a wig can make them feel even better!
