You Expect Hair Loss When You're Older, But What About In Your 20s?

Many men, and even some women, expect that they will lose their hair as they get older. However, what you may not expect is losing your hair as early as your 20s. This may happen to you for a variety of reasons, but the great news is, this hair loss doesn't have to be permanent because New Look Institute can help. Here are some of the reasons why you may experience hair loss as early as your 20s.

Genetics

When it comes to hair loss, sometimes your genetics aren't in your favor. Baldness can occur in an individual because of the genes they inherit from both their mother and their father. While it has been theorized that it comes more from one parent than the other, the genes of both parents contribute. For males, baldness may be related to chromosome 20, but more scientific research needs to be conducted before the exact cause is determined.

Chemotherapy

When an individual goes through chemotherapy, it attacks the cancer cells in their body. However, it also attacks other cells in their body as well, including their hair follicles. This in turn causes all of their hair to fall out. Since this hair loss is directly related to the chemotherapy, once the treatments have ended, the hair follicles will slowly begin to grow again.

Prescription Medications

Another surprising cause of hair loss is some prescription medications. Most medications have side effects, but you may not have known that hair loss is one of them. Some medications that may cause hair loss are blood thinners, beta-blockers, female or male hormones, antidepressants, and anticonvulsants. To be sure that a medication you are taking doesn't cause hair loss, it is important to ask your doctor for a full list of the medication's side effects.

Stress

Stress can also cause you to lose your hair for a variety of reasons. You may have a habit of picking and pulling at your hairs when you are nervous, which will lead to bald spots overtime. Anxiety issues can also cause your hair follicles to weaken, which can lead to your hair falling out, or it can cause the hair follicles to simple stop growing like they once did.

Autoimmune Diseases

Autoimmune diseases are diseases where the body essentially attacks itself. It does this by attacking the healthy cells in your body. One very common form of autoimmune disease that leads to hair loss is Alopecia. This hair loss generally starts with the hair falling out in chunks, until all of the hair has come out, potentially leading up to balding on the head (alopecia totalis) or the entire body (alopecia universalis).

Poor Diet

Another cause of hair loss may be a poor diet. If your body doesn't get the nutrients that it needs, then certain things will begin to weaken and may stop growing in general. Your hair is one of these things. For example, if you aren't taking in enough Vitamin D, then your hair may stop growing. For males or females who suffer from anorexia, the hair often becomes weak and then falls out due to the severe lack of nutrients.
