Time to Go Short and Tousled

After spending months in the limelight, the long bob – or “lob” – has lost its status as one of the world’s hottest haircuts. Instead, celebrities and mere mortals are turning their attention to a new trend sensation: the wobbly bob or “wob,” a wavy style that has seen long-standing fans of the lob updating their hairdo with body and bounce.

If you are already showcasing a bob, it may be time to ask your stylist for a choppier, lived-in look so you too can channel the cool crops sported by the A-list. Finding the perfect cut can be tricky, but fortunately, you don’t have to look too far afield to find inspiration from your favorite celebrities. Just a few weeks ago, Beyoncé made waves rocking a tousled bob at the Topshop store opening, while Jennifer Lawrence illustrated the versatility of the bob by sporting a swept-up hairdo with a black head wrap and a side-swept retro look at The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 premieres in London and Los Angeles, respectively.

]The wob, and its predecessor, the lob, may be shorter than the majority of the A-list hair trends that have been popular of late, but they are easy to grow out. Just look to the likes of Emma Stone and Karlie Kloss, who always seem game for a spontaneous hair change. If, however, you are not convinced that short hair is for you, you can still buy into this season’s new trends.

To update your style without opting for the snip, lean towards clean yet low-maintenance styles. If you want to wear your hair down, go for a side-swept style with a deep part and exposed nape area à la Kendall Jenner at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards or, for a classic up-do, try a painstakingly neat ballerina bun with a razor-sharp parting, as worn by Ashley Greene at the 11th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards.

Whether you are looking to chop off your long locks for a short hairdo, or you are toying with the idea of a more modest hairstyle shake-up, this season’s trending hairstyles are sure to inspire you to switch up your look with a fashionable new hairdo.
